Rural Sanitation
IWDI consciously believes that rural community development is only possible with the due consideration of access of Water and sanitation facilities , Water plays very important role in human development , IWDI works for the past 15 years on the issues related to water resources , We have made possible to all the rural community members have accessing quality water supply by providing the recharge techniques and maintenance activities of water tanks and pipelines , We also imparted trainings to local mechanics to have a technical knowledge on repairs and maintenance of mechanized pumps.
Promoted to have a kitchen garden practices and also have a sock pits to manage the water sources and also saplings distributed to the rural women nurtured properly with the special monitoring by the community based organization , IWDI also insist on the community based total sanitation technology/interventions.
Community Led Total Sanitation (CLTS) is an innovative methodology for mobilizing communities to completely eliminate open defecation (OD). Communities are facilitated to conduct their own appraisal and analysis of open defecation (OD) and take their own action to become ODF (open defecation free).
- 720 Individual toilets constructed in rural habitation in Gummudipoondi Block , Thiruvallur district with the support of Water Aid –UK, and District Rural Development Agency, Thiruvallur.
- 76 Individual toilets constructed in the Villages of Gummudipoondi with the support of Habitat for Humanity, India.
- All the Project areas both in Chennai and Thiruvallur SHGs trained in the Health prevention training given by the trained health mentors –supported by TATA Trust through DESH -Chennai
